Prayer

I've been reading this book called Prayer by Philip Yancey and several quotes really grabbed my attention.

PERSPECTIVE
'Prayer helps correct myopia, calling to mind a perspective I daily forget.'

'If i started with the mind and will of God, viewing the rest of my life from that point of view, other details would fall into place -- or at least fall into a different place.'

'Be still. In the focus, all else comes into focus. In that rift in my routine, the universe falls into alignment.'

'God invites us to take a holiday[vacation], to stop being God for a while, and let him be God.'

ATTITUDE
',,,prayer has become for me much more than a shopping list of requests to present to God. It has become a realignment of everything. I pray to restore the truth of the universe, to gain a glimpse of the world, and of me, through the eyes of God.'

Realignment is so important! I loose my foothold on reality, the true reality of why all this is happening...prayer allows me to slow down, be still and look at my life from an eternal standpoint.

'As adults we like to pay our own way, live in our own homes, make our own decisions...' But we 'are sealing off the heart attitude most desirable to God and most descriptive of our true state in the universe. "Apart from me you can do nothing," Jesus told his disciples, a plain fact that we conspire to deny.'

There is such a delicate balance between being proactive and resting upon God...

RELATING
'Relationship deepen as I trust my friends with secrets. Likewise, unless i level with God--About bitterness over an unanswered prayer, grief over loss, guilt over and unforgiving spirit, a baffling sense of God's absence--that relationship, too, will go nowhere.'
